I have said a time or two in this series that Reynolda Gardens is one of my favorite places on Earth. But this, specifically – the little fountain at the heart of the gardens. When I was young, starting when I was a student at Wake Forest (which is adjacent to the gardens), this was my favorite place to take dates after dark. It was so unspeakably beautiful and tranquil…perhaps the most romantic spot I know. It was wonderful to be able to sit by it for a few minutes on my recent trip back, and to capture with my camera the thing I could never articulate with words.

Fountain, Reynolda Gardens, Winston-Salem, NC
I can imagine just how tranquil this place is, the sound of water is so soothing.

At night it’s amazing, especially, even though it’s a stone’s throw from a fairly well-traveled street (Reynolda Rd.). The place is able to translate even the traffic into something oddly romantic.
