I like this, but not because of the bright lights. If your eye wanders around, there’s shadow detail everywhere. That, to me, is the strength of the image.

Thanks. I set out to make it all about the light, but that meant darkening everything else. I tried it darker, but it just didn’t feel right.

Because you know this group – we seldom agree on anything… (in a nice way) – I struggled with being able to see all the shadow details. What especially bothered me were the two flags at the lower right of the sign. I’m sure it is because I know what color they “are” – whereas I don’t know what color everything else is in the shot. I personally like other treatments of this sign you have shared – the street level version. 🙂

I have another treatment of this shot that might bother you less. In this, I stripped all but the sign to b/w and then laid a subtle sepia filter over it, and the result is that in the bricks it doesn’t even look b/w so much as it does just darker and desaturated. In the other version there’s no sepia, so it’s more overtly b/w. That may or may not work for you, but if it does it will almost certainly ruin things for Denny. 🙂
